I am the editor of a line dance magazine here in Australia called The Line Dance Mag. It has been in publication for 12 years now.
Our subscribers send in their top dances every 2 months and I would be happy to share this information with your readers.
I live in Queensland, which is one of the states that makes up Australia. We have 6 states, Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and we also have 2 Territories, Australian Capital Territory and The Northern Territory. Most Europeans cannot comprehend the actual size of Australia - we are indeed a huge country.
Currently all instructors are winding down for the Christmas festive season and a lot of us are just revising past dances rather than teaching new dances.
We have our biggest country music festival at Tamworth (NSW) in January and most line dancers wait to see what becomes popular from the new dances that will be taught at the workshops during that time.
The Tamworth Country Music Festival is an exciting event that goes for about 10 days.
All our well known country music artists will be there as well as the singers who aspire to be well known. The main streets of the town are closed to traffic and there are stalls selling country gear and buskers all over the place singing their hearts out… and of course there are people dancing in the streets everywhere. It is a wonderful place to be, but it is VERY HOT!
January is our hottest month of the year so many people head to the clubs and hotels which are all airconditoned and every club and pub has country music artists singing and competing. If you are ever in Australia during this time of the year you must come and have a look.
I myself have 4 workshops to teach my dances at in Tamworth and following that, on our return to Hervey Bay we always hold a workshop for local instructors to learn the dances that we think will be popular from Tamworth.
There are literally thousands of dances that are done by different clubs around Australia, but at the moment, the dances that seem to be popular are as follows:
Amame by Robbie McGowan Hickie
Galway Girls by Chris Hodgson
Peaches And Cream by Metelnick and Biggs
Half A Nip Of Baileys byJan Wyllie
Little Red Book by Dee Musk
Turn Me Loose by Simon Ward
Crazy Foot Mambo by Paul McAdam
My Veronica by Metelnick and Biggs
Catch The Rain by Metelnick and Biggs
My New Life by John Offermans
Sea Salt Sally by Kate Sala
Mississippi by Jan Wyllie
Baker Street by Lizzie and Pat Stott
Play Me A Dancer by Stephen Paterson
Headphones by Maggie Gallagher
All the best. Have a nice Christmas break.
Cheers n all

Jan Wyllie
